Two years ago we moved into the garden level of a brownstone in Brooklyn and wanted to renovate our fireplace. We contacted Big Apple Chimney and were thrilled with the results. They helped us create a raised brick fire place with wood storage below. Raising the interior of the firebox allows us to see the fire from many more areas of our apartment and the wood storage is very helpful when the weather is inclement. The craftsmen working with us also suggested taking the brick all the way up to the ceiling (removing some plaster board wall) and this required excellent mason skills in blending old and newer bricks. The outcome looks like it was always that way. Friends and family rave about our fireplace and ask to come and sit in front of it to enjoy the beauty and the warmth of a wood fire. We can’t say enough about the excellent work and service of Big Apple Chimney. We highly recommend them.

Richard and the team at Big Apple Chimney restored our beautiful fireplace in Brooklyn.
They handled every aspect of a complicated project that included masonry, chimney lining, and finishing work.
The work was professional, beautifully executed, and on time. The picture speaks for itself.
I used Jason with big apple chimney to install/open up an old fireplace in my brooklyn brownstone. i did a bunch of renovations and construction work in this apt and used several companies, and i have to say that Jason was BY FAR the favorite of ALL the workmen I hired. He spent MANY tireless hours with me discussing my vision (i tend to be a bit OCD when it comes to getting what i want, but he remained patient and conscientious) and in the end the work was BEAUTIFUL and beyond what i had even imagined possible. Specifically, I had some brick work that the previous owners had painted with a shiny shellac and i wanted the bricks to look antiqued, he had to try several different techniques and would not settle for anything less than the exact look i wanted... this was extremely difficult to achieve but Jason did not stop until it was perfect. All of his crew members were nice, extremely professional, and very reliable - i have had a big problem in the past with many contractors completing 90% of the work and then disappearing with 100% of the money - not the case with big apple, the work was begun and completed exactly when they said it would be, 100%. My fireplace works great and is constantly complimented by my guests. I would recommend big apple to anyone in brooklyn wanting a beautiful and perfectly functioning fireplace!

Just wanted to shoot you a quick email to thank you for your efforts with our fireplace - the final solution was the magic bullet, and Pete and I are absolutely delighted with the results. The fire looks terrific and burns perfectly, and Pete swears he feels more heat radiating from it in its current arrangement than we did before - and not ONE smidgeon of smoke to be seen or smelled outside of the fireplace. GREAT EXPERIENCE This past September 2010, I had water damage throughout my home (all three floors), ceilings and floors and we couldn't find the leak no matter how we tried! A family member suggested that i may need to have the chimney inspected for leaks. Well I remembered their name, I had seen their trucks around my neighborhood, I got their number online at their website, after seeing their site, I called and spoke to Richard he offered to come over and give me a free estimate of the situation, he came the same day! a video camera inspection was suggested and for a reasonable price we found the source of the leak it was a faulty chimney, seems the masonry had deteriorated after years of neglect and it never had a liner, i have no fireplaces? who knew? that the chimney was still a factor, anyways I know now. Richard had his team of professionals install a stainless steel liner in my chimney flue, including a lifetime guarantee! Well needless to say, NO MORE LEAKS! I love it! BIG APPLE TURNED ME ON
yeah, I had a, what's called "Shut Off" by the gas company (which means they shut-off your heat!) my neighbor suggested I call Big Apple Chimney's Emergency Service Number. I did and I got a professional serviceman that had my equipment turned back on, in under two hours (from when I called them!) What a Life Saver! This Company did some of the finest fireplace and chimney construction i've seen in years, in a series of buildings i was under contract to renovate, i highy recommend them!!!

Dear Jason, thank you very much for paying such quick attention to our little service call. Our tenants love their chimneys and use them frequently. Your work, the building of three fire places, including the removing of historic mantle pieces and mirrors, the lining of the flues and the building of new chimneys on the roof, was professional, clean and very efficient. It improved the value of our property. He turned our old fireplace into a safe, wood burning fireplace. His estimate was on the low side, he charged exactly what he said he would, his workers were considerate, when we had a problem with the neighbors (the wall got hot) they came in immediately and resolved it at no extra charge to us. We highly recommend them. We first used them to build 3 wood-burning fireplaces and line our boiler chimney. They also renovated our mud room. We plan on using them for other projects.
We used them for fireplaces (including totally dismantling & rebuilding a marble fireplace to put in a new hearth) & lining chimneys (given a rec. from friends of ours). We are very happy with the result. Jason Dorn is a good guy / easy to work with.
